There are many kinds of Bầu oboe with different sizes. The three main kinds include/ Kèn Bầu có nhiều cỡ to, nhỏ khác nhau, chia làm 3 loại

Oboe Bầu of high range includes Tiểu, Vắt, and Củn oboes/ Loại âm cao: Kèn Tiểu, Kèn Vắt, Kèn Củn.

Oboe Bầu of middle range includes Trung Pha, Trung đục, and Nàm oboes/ Loại âm trung (sử dụng nhiều): Kèn Trung pha, Kèn Trung đục, Kèn Nàm.

Oboc Bầu of bass range includes Ðại, Ðại trường, and Quá khổ. oboes/Loại âm trầm: Kèn Ðại, Kèn Ðại trường, Kèn Quá khổ:                                               

 1-Reed of oboe Bầu is double reed, and made of soft reed or other material. One end of reed crushed while the other end is round to put into a metal stake. This is a tube made of metal that connects the reed with the body of oboe. Reed is the most important part of oboe since too-hard reed will make instrumentalist difficultly play bass tones, while too-soft reed will cause difficulty in producing high-pitched tones. The not-so-good reed will cause bad affect on the timbre.

1-Dăm Kèn: là loại dăm kép, làm bằng ống sậy mềm (hoặc có thể bằng nguyên liệu khác) một đầu bóp bẹp, cuối dăm để tròn để cắm vào đầu một cái thắng. Cái thắng là một ống bằng kim khí nối liền giữa dăm kèn với thân kèn. Dăm kèn là bộ phận quan trọng nhất của kèn: dăm cứng quá, khó thổi những âm trầm, dăm mềm quá khó lên âm cao. Dăm không tốt sẽ ảnh hưởng màu âm.

 2-Body of oboe Bầu is a hardwood-made tube with to different sized ends. There are 7 fingering holes of round shapes located at the upper part and one more hole at lower part along one side of the body. There is the eight fingering hole on the other side of the body. These fingering holes are pierced at equal spaces in order to produce sounds of tempered heptatonic scale.

2-Thân kèn (còn gọi là dọc kèn): Hình ống, một đầu nhỏ, một đầu to dần. làm bằng gỗ cứng. Kèn Bầu có 7 lỗ bấm hình tròn nằm dọc trên thân và một lỗ dưới thân, do ngón cái đảm nhiệm, phía sau hàng lỗ này có lỗ bấm thứ 8, các lỗ bấm của Kèn Bầu được khoét với khoảng cách đều nhau để có thể phát ra các âm theo thang âm 7 cung chia đều.

3-The bell of oboe is made of either sheath of dry gourd (the name oboe Bầu gourd was referred to this) or from wood, bamboo or brass. The bell can have a cup-shaped mouth in order to lessen the piercing sound, or a flare-shaped mouth in order to providing with sounds in louder volume.

 3-Loa Kèn: làm bằng vỏ bầu khô (nên còn gọi là Kèn Bầu), cũng có thể làm bằng gỗ, bằng tre, nứa, hay bằng đồng. Miệng loa kèn có loại cụp vào (âm thanh nghe đỡ chói tai) và loại loe ra âm thanh lớn hơn.
